Nine Former Bombers Drafted in 2016 MLB Draft

Bryan-College Station, TX - This past weekend, the Bomber faithfully saw nine of its former players taken by MLB teams.

The first of the nine Bombers selected in the draft was Remey Reed, a sophomore, right-handed pitcher from Oklahoma State, who was taken in the sixth round by the Miami Marlins. For the OSU Cowboys, Reed has a 3.82 ERA with four victories and one loss. During his time with the Bombers, Reed pitched 21 innings, striking out 15 batters and walking three throughout the entire summer.

Henri Lartigue, junior catcher from Ole Miss, was the seventh round selection for the Philadelphia Phillies. Latrique had a team leading .353 average, for Ole Miss, along with 31 RBI's and four home runs.

The Chicago Cubs selected Dakota Mekkes, a sophomore pitcher out of Michigan State, in the 10th round. This past season, Mekkes had a 1.74 ERA with 28 appearances for the Spartians. Mekkes also struck out 96 batters he faced this season and did not allow a single homerun.

The Philadelphia Phillies drafted Darick Hall, first baseman from Dallas Baptist University, in the 14th round. Hall produced 20 homeruns and 72 RBIs in 63 Games.

In the 18th round, first baseman Hunter Melton was selected by the Colorado Rockies. Melton, who completed his final game Sunday night at Texas A&M University, played in a Super Regional where he scored a homered.

The Kansas City Royals, in the 27th round, drafted Rex Hill, a left-handed pitcher from TCU. Hill started 11 games for the Horned Frogs with only three losses.

Right-handed pitcher, Brigham Hill, out of Texas A&M was selected in the 20th round of the draft by the Oakland A's. Hill had a 2.51 ERA with a nine and two record with 97 complete innings pitched.

The Angels selected Tyler Bates, a centerfielder from East Texas Baptist University, in the 38th round. As a senior, Bates led the team with 72 hits, 55 RBI and was tied for second with 12 stolen bases.

The Miami Marlins selected Trenton Hill, left-handed pitcher from Lee University, in the 34th round. Hill pitched 60.1 innings with only 13 appearances in his senior campaign for the Flames.
