Brooklyn Aviators News Release

BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators dropped another overtime decision to the Cape Cod Bluefins, 5-4, on Saturday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

Aviators forward Vladimir Nikiforov netted a hat trick - with two coming shorthanded - in the contest, which now gives him eight points in two games for Brooklyn. Despite the strong showing from the former Bridgeport Sound Tiger, Anthony Sarno tallied the game-winner for the Bluefins with just 2:22 left to go in the extra session to help push Cape Cod past the Aviators.

Jordan Bernier tallied Brooklyn's first goal of the game at the 4:15 mark of the opening frame to give the Aviators a 1-0 edge. Chris Ferazzoli feathered a pass to Bernier, who was streaking in far side, and the rookie tapped the puck past Bluefins netminder Chris Testa for his fourth goal of the year. Cape Cod answered late in the period though on Kevin McCready's first as a Bluefin. The righty shot back handed a loose puck behind Brooklyn goalie Tommy let to the tie game with 3:08 left in the first.

Nikiforov put Brooklyn back on top, 2-1, with a short-handed marker at the 8:08 spot of the second period. The Hauppauge, NY product stole the puck in the neutral zone and lifted a shot over the glove of Testa for his third goal of the season. Nikiforov would then net his second of the game, and of the period, after putting home a one-timer from Ferazzoli with 9:33 left in the frame. Garrett Peters pulled the Bluefins back to within one, 3-2, with his power play goal at the 13:45 mark. His one-timer slid past Lee on the far side and rolled into the net for his first tally of the year.

Cape Cod would then score the game's final three goals, with the game tying marker coming with just :49 seconds left - after Nikiforov's third of the game- to eventually skate off with the victory.

Lee made 33 stops in the overtime loss, while Testa picked up his first win putting aside 26 shots.
