January 30, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release

Rockville, MD - The Maryland Nighthawks (18-5) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) continued to roll through the regular season with back-to-back wins over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Nighthawks destroyed the visiting Pittsburgh Xplosion 122-99 in front of a raucous hometown crowd. Forward and 2006 ABA All-Star Ray "Hops" Cunningham lead the way with 25 points, while newcomer Lee Cook dropped 15 points. Pittsburgh kept it close in the first half, successfully utilizing the full-court press, but the Nighthawks took charge after the intermission.

A very talented Strong Island Sound team came to Rockville on Sunday. After trailing much of the game, Maryland sharpshooter and emerging crowd-favorite Frank "The Sniper" McQueen (21 points) led a 4th-quarter comeback to win the game 109-103. Cook had one of his strongest games as a Nighthawk, scoring 27 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Coach Keith Williams needed his entire roster, as six players scored in double figures for the Nighthawks.

After the weekend victories, the Nighthawks stand in second place in Connie Hawkins Division, one full game in the standings behind their archrival Rochester Razorsharks (18-3).

The Maryland Nighthawks tip-off an extended road swing on Friday, taking on the Montreal Matrix in Canada. On Sunday, February 19 at 6:00 PM, the Nighthawks return home against hoops legend Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins and his Newark Express.

The Maryland Nighthawks play their home games at Montgomery College - Rockville Campus, PE Building.
