Upper Valley Nighthawks News Release

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - The Upper Valley Nighthawks snapped a three-game losing skid as they defeated the North Adams SteepleCats, 4-1, on Saturday night at the Maxfield Sports Complex.

The Nighthawks offense sprang into action in the home-half of the first inning. Drew Tipton (Arkansas State University) led off the inning with a walk before Greg Hardison (UNC Greensboro) singled to move him along. Anthony Quirion (Lamar University) was hit-by-pitch to load the bases, and Eric Feliz (University of Notre Dame) drove them all in with a grand slam over the left-center field fence, which gave the Nighthawks an early 4-0 advantage.

Greg Gasparro led off the seventh inning with a walk for the SteepleCats, and later came around to score on a Jackson Coutts single, which reduce Upper Valley's lead to three runs.

Nighthawks starter Jordy Allard (Southern New Hampshire University) tossed four scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits, and striking out five SteepleCats. Reliever Stephen Hansen (Iona College) pitched the 4th and 5th innings, gave up one hit, and struck out one as well. David Sampson (Plymouth State University) pitched a one-hit 7th inning before Ty Adcock (Elon University) relieved him in the 8th. Alvin Melendez (Fordham University), who has served the Nighthawks well in the outfield this summer, made his summer debut on the hill and shut down North Adams in the 9th inning.

The Nighthawks are at home home again tomorrow evening, playing host to the Newport Gulls at 6:30 PM. It is Halfway to Christmas Night, which will include a visit from Santa Claus. Join us for carols, gifts, egg nog, and pictures with Santa. If you can't make it to the field, Dan Stein and Dave Peck will have all of the action covered on the NECBL Broadcast Network starting at 4:45 PM.
