Nick Peruzzi to Join Northern Michigan University
LINCOLN, Neb. - Nick Peruzzi announced today he will join the Northern Michigan Wildcats as an assistant coach in the 2021-22 season.
Peruzzi, 29, served as Lincoln's associate head coach during the 2020-21 campaign, helping develop the forwards and the power play units. Before joining the Stars, Peruzzi was an assistant coach and director of scouting for three years with the Youngstown Phantoms (2017-20).
"I really enjoyed my time in Lincoln," Peruzzi said. "Lincoln has been one of the most historic organizations in the USHL, which was a big factor in me wanting to come here. I can't thank Chris (Michael), Corey (Courtney), Lori (Crocker) and the rest of the hockey and front office staff enough for allowing me to be a part of it. It was a privilege to be able to represent the Stars logo and continue to help grow the tradition and culture of Lincoln Stars hockey. The fans and the community in Lincoln are second to none. I will cherish our time spent together at the barn."
The Rochester Hills, MI native also served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Aston Rebels of the North American Hockey League in 2016-17. With Aston, Peruzzi helped the Rebels to its first NAHL regular-season championship and Robertson Cup Championship appearance in franchise history.
"I am looking forward to moving back to my home state of Michigan," Peruzzi noted. "Marquette is home to a great community surrounding the university and the hockey program. In my opinion, Marquette is one of the most scenic places in the state of Michigan, if not the entire country."
The Wildcats are an NCAA Division I program set to play in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in 2021-22. They captured a national championship in 1991 and last appeared in the national tournament in 2010. Last season, the Wildcats made it to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) championship game before falling to Lake Superior State. Former Stars forward Grant Potulny (1998-2000) is the current head coach at Northern Michigan, holding the position since 2017-18. Potulny led Lincoln to an Anderson Cup in 2000 and is a member of the Stars of Fame.
"I think that speaks to the history of the Lincoln Stars and the number of high-quality people this organization has produced," Peruzzi continued. "Grant helped the Stars win an Anderson Cup and was able to make a positive impact and leave a legacy in Lincoln. Those teams set the foundation for years to come and it's really cool to see this come full circle. I'm excited to join him and the rest of the coaching staff to help make a similar impact at Northern Michigan."
