Newark Splits Doubleheader with Elmira
In a continuation of a rain delayed game back on June 3rd, the Pilots and Pioneers linked up at Colburn for a doubleheader.
After being down 5-0 in the first innings, the Pilots would surrender 3 more runs after play picked back up. It would be a 8-0 Pioneers lead that left the Pilots playing catch up the rest of the game.
Mason Hazelwood recorded 11 strikeouts in the win for Elmira, giving up 1 hit and 0 earned runs in 5.0 IP.
Tommy Henderson was 1-4 with an RBI for the Pioneers as they would go on to win 10-5.
Game 2 of the evening would see the two teams exchange blows in a tightly contested game. It was a 2-0 Elmira lead until Allen Murphy hit a triple, which was followed up by an error that allowed him to score.
Down 3-1 in the bottom of the six, Jake Walter would hit a solo home run to right field that would kick start a 3 run inning to put the Pilots up 4-3.
In what was scheduled to be a 7 inning game, the Pioneers were down to their final out until Joey Myers came in clutch to bring home the tying run.
However, Parker Tadlock would be the hero for the Pilots as he hit a walk single to bring home the winning run for Newark in the bottom of the 8th.
The Pilots take to the road tomorrow when they travel to Geneva to take on the Red Wings.
