Newark Pilots Sign Two from Florida International

The Newark Pilots have added two players from currently 19th ranked Florida International University for the 2014 season. RHP Chris Mourelle and outfielder Louis Silverio will be making the trip to Newark this summer and will look to play large roles.
Hailing from Miami, FL, Chris Mourelle is just a freshman at FIU this year, but that has not kept him from making an impact early on. So far this season Chris is 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA. He has appeared in 6 games, starting 3 of those including a complete game shutout. In 25.2 innings pitched Mourelle has struckout 14 batters while only walking 4. Chris was given a boost of confidence this February when he faced some of the toughest competition he'll see all year. Mourelle was the starting pitcher this February when the FIU Panthers took on the Miami Marlins in a spring training game. He pitched 4 innings while giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and struck out 4. "Chris is going to be an important part to our rotation this year. He's a young talented arm who will only keep getting better and we are really excited he will be in Newark this year", said Head Coach Mike Armstrong.
Joining Mourelle will be Louis Silverio from Parkland, FL. Silverio is a junior outfielder who transferred from River State College. Just like Chris, Louis has gotten off to a hot start in 2014. He has appeared in 9 games, starting 6 of those. So far he has a .350 BA with a homerun and 4 RBI's. Silverio also got the start vs. the Miami Marlins this February giving him a few at bats against professional pitching. Coach Armstrong said of Silverio, "Louis is an athletic outfielder with baseball in his blood. We expect him to come in and be an exciting player for our fans to watch all summer long."
