
New York Red Bulls Loan Two Players to NYRB II; NYRB II Complete Loan of Amobi Okugo

HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls have loaned two players, Anatole Abang and Justin Bilyeu, to New York Red Bulls II of the United Soccer League (USL). New York Red Bulls II has also completed a loan of Amobi Okugo from Major League Soccer, the club announced today.
Red Bulls II is set to play Bethlehem Steel at 7:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena.
Per the Right of Recall incorporated into the loan agreements of Abang and Bilyeu, the New York Red Bulls (MLS) retain the right to recall the players at any point during the MLS regular season, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.
Abang, a 19-year-old forward, is in the midst of his second season in MLS. He has played in three games for the first team this season, totaling 71 minutes, after making 17 appearances and scoring three goals in 2015. Last season, Abang kicked off his professional career in USL with NYRB II and scored the team's first goal in club history on April 4, 2015 against Toronto FC II. The Cameroonian started and played six USL games last season, recording four goals.
Bilyeu, a native of Saint Louis, Mo., was drafted in the first round (18th overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft out of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville by the New York Red Bulls. The 22-year-old played in 59 games at SIU Edwardsville, including 52 starts. The defender was named to the NSCAA Third Team All-West Region and the Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference. He was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team after his junior season, and chipped in five goals and seven assists over his four-year career.
Okugo, a native of Hayward, Calif., is under contract with MLS, and is currently unattached after being waived by Sporting Kansas City in February of 2016. He began the 2015 season with Orlando City, and spent 2010-14 with the Philadelphia Union. The former 2010 MLS SuperDraft first round pick (6th overall) has played 135 regular season games in six MLS seasons.
The New York Red Bulls' Derrick Etienne Jr., Zach Carroll, Tyler Adams, Alex Muyl and Brandon Allen will also be available for NYRB II selection tonight.
