New York Red Bulls II News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II has signed defender Aaron Long, the club announced today.
Long, a native of Oak Hills, Calif., last played for USL side Seattle Sounders 2. In 2015, Long played 27 games with S2, including 20 starts, and recorded one goal and two assists. Utilized primarily as a midfielder with S2, Long helped the first-year club qualify for the USL Playoffs.
Prior to signing with S2, Long was signed as a member of the Seattle Sounders' first team in 2014 although he did not appear in a match. In the same year, he was selected in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by Portland Timbers with the 36th overall pick. He did not play a game for Portland and was sent out on loan to USL sides Sacramento Republic FC and Orange County Blues FC.
In 2012-13, Long made 17 appearances for FC Tucson of the USL Premier Development League. He scored three goals for the team before being drafted by Portland.
In college, Long tallied 13 goals and five assists as a four-year starter at University of California Riverside from 2010-13. As a senior, he was named to the All-Big West Second Team after finishing as the team's leading goal scorer as a junior with six goals. Long was named to the All-Big West First Team and won the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week in 2012. He scored two game-winning goals as a sophomore in 2011, one of which helped UC Riverside defeat nationally-ranked opponent UC Santa Barbara.
