HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls fell to Toronto FC, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in the season opener at Red Bull Arena. Sebastian Giovinco gave Toronto a late lead on a converted penalty and Marco Delgado added a second goal in stoppage time.

The Red Bulls are now 7-9-5 all-time in season openers, including a 5-2-1 record at home. New York is 12-4-5 all-time in home openers.

Toronto FC was awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, when Kemar Lawrence and a Toronto player contested a low cross played into the penalty area. Giovinco stepped to the spot and fired a low strike to the left. Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles guessed right, but wasn't able to get a hand on the attempt.

Delgado added the second goal in stoppage time, catching New York on the counter attack and beating Robles with a clean finish.

New York held the upper hand for most of the match, taking 62% of the possession and dominating the early scoring chances.

Robles extended his MLS iron man streak into 2016, starting and playing a full 90 minutes for the 107th consecutive MLS match, the second-longest such streak in league history.

It was the first time New York was shutout in a regular season match since May 24, 2015, a 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union. The shutout snaps a streak of 23 consecutive MLS regular season games with at least one goal scored.

Gideon Baah had a strong showing in his Red Bulls debut at center back.

New York is back in action on Saturday, March 12, with a match against the Montreal Impact at Montreal's Olympic Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. with coverage on MSG+2, MSG+, and the Red Bulls Radio Network on TuneIn in English and Spanish.
