Behind Peguy Luyindula's fourth goal of the season, the Red Bulls took a 1-0 lead into the half on Friday night. In the 36th minute, Thierry Henry found Ambroise Oyongo just inside the 18-yard-box. Oyongo "" who made his MLS debut Friday "" cut back onto his right foot and played a cross into Luyindula. Luyindula's header beat Toronto FC goalkeeper Joe Bendik to the far post and put the Red Bulls ahead. The assist was Oyongo's first of the season and his career. Henry moved into a tie for first in assists with his sixth of the season, tying him with Lloyd Sam.

Goalkeeper Luis Robles made a key save on Luke Moore in the second minute to keep the game scoreless. Moore let rip a right-footed shot from just inside the 18-yard-box that Robles had to extend fully to his left to keep out and keep his team level in the early going.

Toronto would find an equalizer just 10 minutes into the second half when Jermaine Defoe netted his eighth goal of the season. Jonathan Osorio found himself out wide on the right side and played a low cross to the near post that Defoe ran onto and clipped home a right-footed shot past Robles.

Following Defoe's goal, Sam had the best chance for either side in the 69th minute. Sam found space on the top of the 18-yard-box and put a low, driven shot on goal that forced Bendik to make a diving save.

Toronto would then take the lead in the 72nd minute off a Gilberto set piece. Set up just outside the 18-yard-box, Gilberto hit a screamer under the crossbar to put the Reds ahead 2-1.

With the Red Bulls trailing, the Red Bulls brought on Cahill as a late second-half substitute. The midfielder flicked on a long ball from Miazga to Wright-Phillips who finished his 12th goal of the season to earn the point for New York.
