New York Red Bulls News Release

SECAUCUS, NJ (January 5, 2009) - The New York Red Bulls Academy are among the inaugural programs selected to form the first of US Club Soccer's Regional Leagues, as the Northeast Pre-Academy League for U14 and U15 boys is set to kick off in February 2009, it was announced recently by US Club Soccer. "The North East Pre Academy League is another positive step in the development of the elite player," commented Red Bull New York Director of Youth Programs Bob Montgomery. "The New York Red Bull Academy is very excited about participating in this league that will promote player development thru emphasizing a proper training regimen and competition schedule over participation in marathon competitions. We look forward to working with the member clubs who are committed to advancing the game in this country."

As a result of the considerable interest expressed in US Club Soccer playing a more direct role in league development, the organization announced in September that it would begin selectively administering its own regional leagues. The Northeast Pre-Academy League is the first of these leagues to come to fruition.

The 12-team Northeast Pre-Academy League features well-known member clubs in seven states, all but one of which are current members of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. In addition to Red Bull New York, participating clubs include: Albertson SC (N.Y.), Bethesda SC (Md.), Blau Weiss Gottschee (N.Y.), FC Greater Boston Bolts (Mass.), FC Westchester (N.Y.), Match Fit Academy (N.J.), Metropolitan Oval (N.Y.), Oakwood SC (Conn.), PDA (N.J.), PA Classics, and Seacoast United (N.H.).

Each club will support a team in both the U14 and U15 age groups. The Red Bulls are already represented at the U16 and U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy league levels.

The 66-game tentative schedule, which lasts through June, is available at usclubsoccer.com. All 12 teams will play each opponent once. The teams will not participate in a season-ending playoff, and the champion will be determined based on cumulative points at the end of the regular season.
