Walker, entering her thirteenth WNBA season, is joining the Liberty after finishing the 2011 season with the Washington Mystics. The New Jersey native was acquired by the Mystics after being released from the Connecticut Sun in Jul. 2011.
"DeMya is an experienced veteran who is familiar with our system, having played for several seasons in Sacramento. She is a skilled player, and we are looking for great things from her here in New York, " said Whisenant.
Walker played a majority of her career with the Sacramento Monarchs including four seasons under Coach Whisenant (2003-06). She earned her first All-Star honor as a reserve in 2005 and capped off the season with a WNBA Championship. Walker averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the championship campaign. Over her career, Walker has started more than half of her 302 games played, averaging 7.6 points, 1.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds.
"I'm really excited and anxious to join the New York Liberty. The chance to play with Cappie (Pondexter) and Plenette (Pierson), as well as playing again with Kara (Braxton) and Nicole (Powell), was something I couldn't pass up. I know the staff very well and I know under their guidance winning a championship is inevitable. I can't wait to get started. Go Liberty!" Walker said.
