January 19, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York City FC News Release
Today New York City FC announced that it has signed Midfielder Keaton Parks to a contract extension through 2026 with an options through 2028.
The 26-year-old Midfielder arrived in New York five years ago to the date on loan from S.L. Benfica, before making his stay permanent at the end of the season. Since then, Parks has gone on to feature in 152 matches for the 'Boys in Blue' scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions, winning the MLS Cup and Campeones Cup along the way.
"I am delighted that Keaton has extended his contract, which will keep him in New York for years to come," said Sporting Director David Lee. "Keaton has been a hugely important player for us over several years, becoming a key piece not only in our midfield but also for our team and brings such a unique skillset to the pitch. Entering the best years of his career, Keaton has consistently become one of the best midfielders in the league and is someone we wanted to reward and make sure that he stayed with the Club.
"Keaton brings so much to the team on the pitch, with his style of play, but also off of it with his character and mentality. Keaton has also embraced New York and has made it his home. His interactions with fans and his work within the community speaks volumes for the kind of individual that he is. A true professional, we are excited to have a player like him in New York for years ahead."
The American had one of his best seasons in 2023 with the Club, becoming a staple in the midfield in his first full season since 2019, playing the second most minutes on the team in addition to finishing in the top-three in assists and shots. Parks joined New York City's exclusive Century Club after making his 100th MLS appearance in last year's season opener against Nashville SC.
"I couldn't be happier to extend my stay with New York City. It's a club and city that have welcomed me and my family with open arms and now holds a dear place in my heart," Midfielder Keaton Parks said. "The last five years have been amazing through all the ups and downs. Helping this Club win trophies is something that I will always remember. I look forward to continuing to work hard and lead by example to help this team achieve its goals this season and beyond.
"To the incredible New York fans, I want to thank you for all your support over the past five years. You have been with me through the good times and the bad, and I hope to continue to repay your faith in me with my performances on the pitch. Our fans are the heartbeat of this Club and we couldn't achieve anything without you cheering for us week in and week out. I am excited to continue this journey and lift more championships for this amazing Club."
Parks has become a fan favorite for his ability on the ball and passing range but also for the impact he's had within the community. Since his arrival, Parks has been entrenched within New York City, serving as one of the Club's community ambassadors, always looking to give back.
