New York City FC Expands Partnership with Berkeley College
March 11, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York City FC News Release
New York City FC today announced an expanded partnership with Berkeley College as the Official Higher Education Partner: Undergraduate and Graduate Services of the Club.
The partnership will continue to provide opportunities to collaborate on education and career development with increased integration and student engagement throughout the Club, including on match days and at official New York City FC events.
"Berkeley College has been a great partner to New York City FC, and we're excited to not only continue but expand on the foundations we've build together," said Andres Gonzalez, New York City FC Vice President of Partnerships. "Both organizations are committed to providing equitable pathways in education and mentorship. We're proud of the work we've achieved together so far and cannot wait to continue collaborating and providing more students with firsthand experience in the sports industry."
As part of the partnership, New York City FC and Berkeley College will host a variety of career readiness and professional training programs, including a shadowing day with the Club's front office. The Club will also continue to provide Berkeley students with internship opportunities to gain first-hand experience working for a professional soccer team. Additionally, Berkeley will provide training and courses for New York City FC staff.
The partnership also extends to Rennert International, Berkeley College's affiliate international language school. Rennert will continue to provide NYCFC's First Team players with ESL courses, language translation, and interpretation services. New York City FC's partnership with Rennert initially began back in 2016.
"Berkeley College is excited to expand our partnership with New York City FC as we collaborate on initiatives that provide diverse and equitable pathways to higher education and career development," said Diane Recinos, EdD, President of Berkeley College. "This partnership continues to open doors for our students through hands-on learning, as they develop practical business skills and are engaged in the industry dynamics of New York City's Major League Soccer organization."
Starting this year, New York City FC and Berkeley's continued partnership will now include a focus on community work. Together, the organizations will now host volunteer and community service projects while integrating Berkeley students into the Club's robust community programming, including the annual Consulate Cup.
