New York City FC News Release
NEW YORK, N.Y. - New York City FC defender Ben Sweat was selected by Inter Miami CF in the First Round of the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft earlier today.
Sweat joined NYCFC in 2017 and made 81 appearances across all competitions. The Florida native scored one goal and chipped in with nine assists in his time at NYCFC.
NYCFC will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for having a player selected in the expansion draft per MLS league rules.
Both Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC could select up to five players each from the eligible pool to help fill out their rosters ahead of their inaugural MLS seasons in 2020.
Clubs were allowed to protect 12 players between their Senior, Supplemental and Reserve rosters. Generation adidas, and Homegrown Players ages 25 and under are automatically protected.
Everyone at NYCFC would like to thank Ben for his time at the Club and wishes him well at Inter Miami FC.
The Club will announce 2020 roster options later this week. The deadline for MLS clubs to notify the League Office is on November 21 at 1:00 pm ET.
