FC Cincinnati Acquire Forward Brandon Vazquez in Trade with Nashville SC
November 19, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati have acquired former Atlanta United FC forward Brandon Vazquez from Nashville SC via trade in exchange for $150,000 in Targeted Allocation Money following Tuesday night's 2019 MLS Expansion Draft in which Nashville selected Vazquez in the fourth round (eighth overall).
Additionally, should Vazquez meet certain performance incentives, FC Cincinnati could send up to an additional $50,000 in General Allocation Money.
Vazquez, 21, will occupy a domestic roster spot on Cincinnati's 2020 MLS roster. Prior to being selected in tonight's Expansion Draft, Vazquez played three MLS seasons with Atlanta United FC (2017-19).
In 2019, Vazquez made 11 MLS appearances, including seven starts, while scoring two goals and adding two assists in a career-high 637 minutes. The forward was a key part of Atlanta United FC's 2019 U.S. Open Cup-winning campaign, scoring a pair of goals in each of Atlanta's first two matches in the competition.
"Brandon is a good young player that we are pleased to add to our roster," FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said. "Regardless of his age, he reached a good level on the pitch during his three MLS seasons with Atlanta. We are looking forward to welcoming Brandon to Cincinnati as we continue to build our 2020 roster and prepare for the upcoming season."
In his three MLS seasons, Vazquez has made a combined 32 appearances, including seven starts, and has scored three goals and added two assists. At the age of 18, he made his MLS debut on April 22, 207 as a stoppage-time substitute at Real Salt Lake, scoring his first career MLS goal shortly after entering the match.
Internationally, Vazquez has represented the United States at the U-17, U-19 and U-20 levels. He was one of two players - along with Chelsea FC's Christian Pulisic - to score for the U.S. at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Vazquez tallied twice, scoring his goals in group stage matches against Chile and Croatia.
FC Cincinnati will return to the field in early 2020 for their second MLS season. Season Ticket Memberships for the 2020 season are now on sale to the general public at //fccincinnati.com/tickets or by calling 513-977-5425 (KICK). A 2020 Season Ticket Membership also secures fans' place on the club's priority list, which will be utilized when sales begin in the new West End Stadium for the 2021 season.
