New Mexico United News Release
Albuquerque, NM - New Mexico United is honored to unveil an incredible new mural, created by New Mexican artist Jodie Herrera, entitled "Her Strength." After 18 months of work and care, the piece is now publicly viewable at the corner of 5th and Central in Albuquerque, and Herrera says the piece is all about representation of the female fan.
"This mural is celebrating the female fan base," said Herrera. "I feel like that's often not represented in sports, or actually integrated into sports in general, at all. That's what makes United very unique. But also, I thought this was a great opportunity to celebrate our female fan base. (The woman depicted in the mural) is a woman of color, which represents our community. And I think that's really important."
While the piece is viewable now, Herrera will be available for a free meet & greet at an upcoming Albuquerque Art Walk, scheduled for August 6th. This is the second mural that New Mexico United has commissioned in our community. The first - created by Noe Barrett and entitled "Somos Unidos" is viewable at the corner of 2nd and Coal in Albuquerque. These pieces are crucial parts of United's commitment to beautifying and building our community through art and sport - one of the key foundational pieces upon which the club is built.
