New Mexico United Announces Return of Defender Austin Yearwood
December 6, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United is excited to announce that defender Austin Yearwood will return to the club for the 2023 USL Championship season. Yearwood was one of United's first signings - joining the club before the 2019 season. In the five years since, he has been as consistent on the field, as he has been off of it - dominating defensively and being a crucial member of this club in the community.
Yearwood is sixth, all-time, in appearances for the Black & Yellow with 86 in all competitions. Yearwood has scored one professional goal. His right-footed curler against San Antonio FC was good enough to win the 2021 USL Championship Goal of the Season, and give United a crucial 2-0 win in the 2021 season.
In 2022, Yearwood was among the team leaders in clearances, blocks, interceptions, and tackles, despite missing time due to an injury. Yearwood came back strong and was, once again, a leader on and off the pitch for New Mexico. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended High Point University. He was a High School All-American, and played in USL League Two before making his pro debut in 2016 with the Charlotte Independence.
