April 24, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) New Mexico United, the state's USL Championship franchise, is pleased to announce the High-Performance Program (H.P.P) for youth soccer players. The H.P.P is for both male and female players, age 12 to 17. The intention of the program is to provide supplemental instruction and competitive opportunities for the state's top talent.
"We visited with each of the local youth clubs and ran a training session for their players," said Head Coach and Technical Director Troy Lesesne. "What we discovered was that there was a very good level of play among these youth players in New Mexico, and more importantly, there was a real ambition from these players to learn, grow, and seek more opportunities to develop in the game."
Assistant Coach Zach Prince will direct the program, which begins with three viewing sessions in the month of June. Up to 100 players will be at each of the viewing sessions, and of the 300 prospects, up to 60 will be chosen for the H.P.P. The viewing sessions are open to all players that meet the age requirements. Every player selected for the program will receive a full scholarship, meaning there is no cost to participate for the player's family.
"Now the goal for every New Mexican youth soccer player can be to sign a professional contract with New Mexico United," said Prince.
The first training session will take place in July, and there will be a total of 10 sessions in 2019, leading up to competitive events in 2020. Each two-hour session will be coached by Prince, and players from New Mexico United's first team. All viewing and training sessions will take place at the team's Mesa Del Sol training facilities - 5600 University Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87105.
There is no cost for the viewing sessions, but players must register here. Registration will close 48 hours prior to the session. For more information, please email hppdirector@newmexicoutd.com.
