Gold Cup Trophy Tour Makes Stop in Nashville

Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - Some silverware made a pit stop in Nashville this week. The CONCACAF Gold Cup Trophy Tour rolled through Nashville on Wednesday morning in advance of the Music City hosting a Gold Cup semifinal on July 3 at Nissan Stadium. Nashville Soccer Club CEO Ian Ayre joined the trophy on WKRN News 2's Good Morning Nashville show this morning to talk about the upcoming Gold Cup and Nashville SC.

Other stops on the Trophy Tour for the Gold Cup included Los Angeles, Denver and Dallas. Nashville was the final stop for the Gold Cup prior to the tournament starting on June 15.

The Gold Cup is a continental soccer tournament that includes countries from North and Central America and the Carribbean. Nashville hosted two Gold Cup group matches the last time the tournament was played in 2017, drawing 47,622 for a U.S. vs. Panama match. While that mark has since been passed, at the time it was the largest crowd to witness a soccer match in Nashville.

The 2019 Gold Cup is the 15th edition of the tournament, and will be the biggest yet, including 16 teams, the most to ever participate in the tournament. This year's Gold Cup will see Nashville host a Semifinal match. If the U.S. National Team were to make the Semifinal in the tournament, it would play in Nashville for that match.

Nashville has a prime chance to impress the soccer world in advance of the 2026 World Cup that the U.S. will take part in hosting. Nashville is one of the finalist cities being considered to host World Cup matches. A successful Gold Cup Semifinal match could secure Music City's place as a premier soccer city in the U.S.
