New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ â On Thursday, August 26, 2004, the New Jersey Jackals rested on an off day. The off day comes after completing a three-game series in New Haven, where the Jackals took two of three from the Cutters.
The Jackals' second half record currently is 21-14, while being comfortable ahead in the South Division. The closest team to New Jersey is the Elmira Pioneers, who sit eight and a half games out of first place, with the second half dwindling down.
With the 2004 season down its home stretch, it looks as if the New Jersey Jackals are well on their way to a six consecutive Half South Division Championship.
The New Jersey Jackals return home tomorrow, Friday, August 27, 2004. The Bangor Lumberjacks come into town for a four game series at Yogi Berra Stadium, in a possible playoff preview. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It's Road to the Jackals Book Giveaway at the ballpark. Make sure to tune into all the action on WPSC 88.7fm, and on the web at www.jackals.com. For tickets, please call the Jackals' Ticket Office at (973) 746-7434, or log onto www.jackals.com.
Playoff tickets are currently on sale for the 2004 season. The Jackals have already clinched a spot, after winning the first half South Division Championship. Their opponent is yet to be determined. The ballclub will be playing at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday September 9, 2004. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. New Jersey will only host this game if they win the second half. Box seats are $11.00 and reserved seats are $9.00. Lawn seats are priced at $6.00, but will only be sold if both box and reserved seats are sold out. No discounts or coupons will be accepted during the playoffs.
The North Essex Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet, Greet and Barbecue business networking event on Wednesday September 1, 2004, at 6 p.m, at Yogi Berra Stadium. The event is prior to the 7:05 p.m. start of a game between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers. The $30 fee includes a BBQ buffet at Jackals' Park, a ticket to the ballgame, and unlimited draft beer and soda until the seventh inning. For tickets to the event, please call the NESS at (973) 226-5500.
New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, Jackals' starting pitcher Aaron Myers was named the Rawlings Northeast League Player of the Month. Myers went 4-1 in the month of July, with a 1.06 ERA. In 34 innings of work, Myers scattered 29 hits while striking out 38. Also during the month, Myers tossed a complete game, seven inning shutout of the Elmira Pioneers, in which he struck out eleven batters. At the time of the award, Myers was second in the Northeast League in strikeouts with 75.
The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium. The first game will begin in the bottom of the third, and will go a full nine innings. The second contest will be seven innings.
