Northeast League recap

Published on August 26, 2004 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

BROCKTON 7, NORTH SHORE 4

@ Lynn, Mass. Time: 2:21 ATT: 1,480

W: Shad Williams (1-0) L: Klae Calvert (3-1) S: Dave Stevens (1)

HR: NS – Travis Oglesby (15)

A six-run first inning propelled Brockton to a 7-4 victory over North Shore. The first-inning runs came on six singles and a RF Mike Sandoval RBI double, which would turn out to be plenty of support for Rox starter Shad Williams, who went eight innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts to get his first Northeast League win. 3B Jake Daubert, C Brian Jones, and LF Bo Newson each chipped in two hits for Brockton. North Shore scored single runs in the first, third, fifth, and eighth, when 1B Travis Oglesby hit his fifteenth homer of the season, but it was never enough to overcome the Rox' big opening frame.

BANGOR 5, QUEBEC 1

@ Bangor, Maine. Time: 2:45 ATT: 1,648

W: Adam Thomas (8-5) L: Jess Turner (4-4) S: Isaac Pavlik (4)

HR: BGR – Rolando Bello (1), Derry Hammond (21)

Bangor used an excellent outing from starter Adam Thomas to finish the sweep of Quebec and move into a tie for first place with the Capitales. Thomas threw 8 2/3 innings, scattering seven hits and giving up just one run, striking out six. The Lumberjacks got on the board in the second on back-to-back RBI singles from SS Paul Powell and 3B Shin Uchino, and added three more in the fifth with a solo blast from 2B Rolando Bello and a two-run shot from LF Derry Hammond. Quebec's only run came in the seventh on a RF Benoit Emond RBI single.
