New Investor Takes A 'Flyer' On The Aces

Questions surrounding the ownership and management of the Alexandria Aces were answered today when 46 year-old Chicago businessman Steve Spielman announced that he was taking the reins of the Alexandria Baseball Club.

Spielman's company, FC Baseball, LLC, assumes control of the franchise effective immediately.

A graduate of Arkansas State University, Spielman is a Chicago real-estate investor as well as a minority partner in the Rockford (IL) RiverHawks of the Independent Frontier League.

"It has long been my dream to own and operate my own ballclub' said Spielman. "I am thrilled to be here and I will be very much a HANDS ON owner."

The Aces are entering their 10th season in the Central Baseball League (formerly known as the Texas-Louisiana League) in 2003. Until last season, when Texas Independent Baseball purchased the franchise, the team was owned and operated by the league itself.

While the performance of the team on the field has been solid, including two league championships in those nine seasons, the club has always struggled at the gate.

"We feel that direct ownership involvement in the operation of the team will make all the difference" stated Spielman. "While the previous top management, Craig Brasfield and Chet Carey have been outstanding, we feel that there is no substitue for visible, highly involved owners."
