France comes to Alexandria
August 6, 2003 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Alexandria Aces News Release
The Alexandria Aces Wednesday signed former University of Texas pitcher/outfielder Ryan France to a Central League contract.
France, a right-handed thrower, is coming off Tommy John surgery and last played during the 2002 season for the Texas Longhorns. He finished his collegiate career with an 11-10 record and a 4.33 earned run average in 166-plus innings.
Aces manager RC Lichtenstein plans to use France out of the bullpen, though he could see time in other roles.
A switch-hitter, France was also regular in the Texas lineup as an outfielder his sophomore season. He compiled a career .286 average and finished with more career walks than strikeouts.
The Aces head to Amarillo for a four-game series before returning home Monday, August 11, for a season-ending homestand. The Jackson Senators come in to start a three-game Business Partners Appreciation series.
The Central Baseball League plays a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.
The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
