The Alexandria Aces Wednesday traded first baseman Brian Schmitt to the North Shore Spirit of the Northeast League for future considerations.
Schmitt hit .292 in 73 games for the Aces with eight home runs and 45 RBI. He hit four home runs in the recently completed series against the Shreveport Sports.
The Spirit is based in Lynn, Mass., a Boston suburb, and already has clinched a playoff spot as the North Division's first half champions. The Northeast League and Central League share the same administrative staff.
The Aces head to Amarillo for a four-game series before returning home Monday, August 11, for a season-ending homestand. The Jackson Senators come in to start a three-game Business Partners Appreciation series.
The Central Baseball League plays a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.
The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
