FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have signed midfielder Scott Caldwell to a new contract. He is currently in his fourth year with the Revs after being made the club's second-ever Homegrown Player in 2012.

"Scott has been an important part of this club, both on and off the field, and he's an example of the type of player we look for here in New England," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said. "We have had the opportunity to watch Scott grow from being a homegrown player to being named MVP of the club by both his teammates and fans. We are excited Scott will be with the club in the years ahead."

Playing for the Revs since 2013, Caldwell, 24, has made 89 appearances, logging 6,609 minutes with the Revolution in regular season league play. In 2015, Caldwell played all 34 matches, including 32 starts, registering two goals and five assists in 2,882 minutes. At the end of the season, fans named him Santander Most Valuable Player for his performance, while his teammates recognized him as Players' Player of the Year.

The Revolution signed Caldwell on December 21, 2012, as a Homegrown Player. Prior to his professional career, he played four seasons at the University of Akron, where he was a two-time All-American. In 2010, when he was a sophomore, Akron won the NCAA Championship and Caldwell was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament.

Caldwell played one season with the Revolution Academy Under-18 team in 2008-09. He captained the team in its inaugural season and appeared in six matches.

For media that wish to speak to Caldwell about re-signing with the league and extending his stay with the club, the Revolution will train tomorrow afternoon at 11 a.m. with media check-in at 12 p.m. and media availability scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. Media who wish to attend training are asked to email the Revolution Communications staff ahead of time at media@revolutionsoccer.net.
