FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (No. 5) will face the Philadelphia Union (No. 4) in Round One of the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, beginning with the first match of the best-of-three series on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m. ET at Subaru Park in Chester, Penn. The Revolution will then host Philadelphia in the second game of the series on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium. If necessary, the decisive third match of the series would be hosted by Philadelphia on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3:00 p.m. ET to determine which team will advance to the conference semifinal round.
Tickets for the Revolution's first playoff home match will go on sale Monday, Oct. 23 at 10:00 a.m. ET at Revolutionsoccer.net/tickets. Watch every match of the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, with both English and Spanish commentary. The first game of the series on Saturday is free for all to watch on Apple TV, while the second game of the series on Nov. 8 will also be televised nationally on FS1 and FOX Deportes. When the Revolution begin their fourth postseason campaign in the last five seasons, it will mark a rematch of the 2023 regular season finale, which saw New England hand Philadelphia a 2-1 defeat at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 21. The Union won the teams' first meeting of the season on their home turf. New England and Philadelphia have met only once before in the MLS Cup Playoffs, a 2-0 victory for New England at Subaru Park in 2020. Across all competitions, Philadelphia holds the series edge with 21 wins in 40 total meetings.
The Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, featuring a brand-new format, will commence with the Wild Card games on Wednesday, Oct. 25. In the best-of-three Round One series, every match will feature a winner as contests tied after 90 minutes will go directly to a shootout from the penalty spot. As the higher seed, Philadelphia earned the right to host the third leg of the best-of-three series, if the teams split the opening two matches. The playoffs return to a single-elimination format, with the higher seed hosting each match, in the conference semifinals, conference finals, and MLS Cup.

The Revolution are led into the postseason by third-time Revolution Team MVP Carles Gil, New England's captain who paced the team with 11 goals and 15 assists during the regular season. Along with newcomer Tomás Chancalay, a 24-year-old from Argentina who has contributed six goals in only 11 appearances, Gil is also benefiting from having his longtime attacking partner Gustavo Bou back in full stride. Bou found the net twice in the season finale against Philadelphia, including the game winner assisted by Gil.
New England's strong midfield is anchored by Matt Polster, who owns 100 starts in a Revolution uniform across all competitions, and 18-year-old Homegrown Player Noel Buck, who started 20 league games in his second MLS season. On the backline, Revolution Defender of the Year Dave Romney has been the defensive anchor on the field for every minute of the 2023 season, while United States international DeJuan Jones provides pace and an attacking threat on the flanks. In net, second-year pro Jacob Jackson started the last two games of the season and posted a win against Philadelphia in his home debut.
The fourth-place Union, coached by the reigning MLS Coach of the Year Jim Curtin, return to the playoffs after finishing as MLS Cup runners-up in 2022. On paper, New England and Philadelphia present an even matchup with identical 15-9-10 records and similar scoring totals of 58 and 57 goals, respectively. Captained by midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, Philadelphia looks to Julian Carranza and Dániel Gazdag for its scoring, as the pair share the team lead with 14 goals each. Acclaimed Jamaican goalkeeper Andre Blake is protected in net by a talented backline that includes Jakob Glesnes, Jack Elliott, and Kai Wagner.
