Neville, Robinson and Yedlin Praise "Group of Fighters"
April 17, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF secured three hard-fought points in its first match against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night. Robbie Robinson's goal put the visitors ahead, and the team earned its second win of the 2022 MLS Regular Season, and second win in a week.
Robinson, the Heineken Man of the Match, praised his teammates and attributed the win to every player on the squad working in unison to achieve a positive result.
"We're a group of fighters, each and every single one. That doesn't just go for this starting XI, it's all eighteen of us. We all want the same thing and are all together as a team. And we're all going to work hard to keep on getting three points and keep on performing and playing well. It goes beyond the three points; we're starting to look better and more compact as a team which is the more important thing."
The forward also noted that even with standout individual performances throughout the squad, the team was focused on winning as a group.
"It feels good of course to be able to get a game-winning goal and help the team get the three points, which is the most important thing. It's going to help us a lot, give us this momentum to keep going forward. It's a great group of guys, and we are all working hard for the same goal."
In his first game against his hometown club, fullback DeAndre Yedlin echoed Robinson's sentiments about the drive and camaraderie shown by the squad.
"I was really proud of the team and the way we fought defensively. In the beginning of the season we would've given up a late goal there. We all fought together; it's eleven guys fighting together and it showed. We had to grind out a good win against a really good team. I'm really proud of the group. I think it was well deserved."
Head Coach Phil Neville was positive after the match, and commented on the result of the effort put forth by the club to move in the right direction.
"I think what you saw today was a continuation of the work; the work that's required to become a good team, the work that's required to have a clear identity. That's two wins on the bounce now against the Eastern Conference champions and probably the best team in the Western Conference."
Neville noted that the squad knew this would be a difficult match, and was prepared to fight for the victory.
"It's going to be a grind out performance. I think we had players all sticking to the game plan. We had fifteen, sixteen players that when they gave the ball away, they fought like mad to get it back. We had fifteen, sixteen players that showed they wanted to fight for Inter Miami."
Inter Miami CF faces cross town rivals Miami FC next in the U.S. Open Cup on April 19, at 7p.m. ET.
