Nets Face the Music and Fall to Go-Go at Home

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (8-6), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, were defeated by the Capital City Go-Go (7-8) 105-91 on Monday evening at Nassau Coliseum.

Brooklyn two-way forward David Duke Jr. led the way for Long Island with 23 points, seven rebounds and one assist in 36 minutes. Long Island forward Kaiser Gates tied his NBA G League career high with 17 points, four rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes.

Capital City jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage less than four minutes into the first period. A quick Long Island timeout did not slow down Capital City, as the Go-Go held a 10-point lead with three minutes to go in the quarter. The two teams traded shots the rest of the quarter, and Capital City took an 11-point lead, 33-22 after one. The Go-Go utilized an 8-2 run less than two minutes into the second quarter, opening a 17-point lead. A fast break layup by Kessler Edwards and a Jordan Bowden 3-pointer sparked a late 7-0 streak by the Nets in the quarter to cut the Capital City lead to nine. At the half, the Go-Go led 53-44.

The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the third quarter. A flurry of Capital City points capped off by Jaime Echenique and-1 midrange jumper advanced the lead to 15 points with just under three minutes to go in the quarter. The Go-Go kept the Nets at bay, leading 76-62 after three quarters. Capital City mounted a 14-7 run to open the fourth quarter, building their largest lead of 25. The Nets strung together late baskets to cut the lead back into the teens, but the effort was made too late. The Go-Go cruised the rest of the game, ultimately defeating Long Island by 14, 105-91.

The Go-Go were led by Vernon Carey Jr., on assignment from Washington, with 25 points and 14 rebounds in 27 minutes. Capital City guard Devontae Shuler tallied 21 points, two rebounds and seven rebounds in 30 minutes.

The Nets play their next game at home tomorrow night against the Westchester Knicks on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. ET, while the Go-Go continue their road trip against Raptors 905 on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
