Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today their initial player signings for the 2011-12 season, their first in the ECHL. Standout leaders Riley Nelson and Aaron Schneekloth (pronounced: sh-knee-cloth) will both be returning to the team, filling two of the four veteran roster spots (players with more than 260 pro games) allowed in the ECHL.

Nelson is the Eagles' all-time leading scorer (683 points in 499 games) and is the only player remaining from the team's inaugural season of 2003-04. In 2010-11, he was named the Central Hockey League's MVP, while also being voted by his peers as the league's "Best Overall Player" for the third season in a row. Nelson ranks among the top-10 in CHL history in points (730, 6th), goals (285, 7th) and assists (445, 9th).

Schneekloth is the Eagles' all-time leading scorer among defensemen (260 points in 270 games) and is one of just two players in CHL history to be named the league's "Most Outstanding Defenseman" two times (2008-09 & 2009-10). After winning the NCAA title during his collegiate career at the University of North Dakota, the blueliner began his professional career in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays in 2001-02. In his second season with the Stingrays, Schneekloth earned ECHL All-Star honors.

"The skill sets and talent level of these two players speaks for itself and is truly impressive, but just as important is their leadership abilities," said Eagles general manager & head coach, Chris Stewart. "Riley and Aaron have helped form the nucleus of our leadership for years, and they've greatly influenced our success both on and off the ice. We are thrilled that they'll continue to provide such great leadership and skill as Colorado Eagles this coming season."

The 2011-12 regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 14, with the Eagles' home-opener taking place on Friday, Oct. 21. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
