Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Phil Aucoin ("auh COIN"). Aucoin (5'10/187) (29), who hails from Chelmsford, Massachusetts, led the North Sea Cup League in the Netherlands with 125 points (26g-99a) in forty-four games for HYS The Hague, who went on to win the 2011 league championship, marking the third consecutive year that Aucoin was a member of the Dutch league championship team. Aucoin is the third player announced as signed by the Royals for the 2011-12 season.
Aucoin, who is entering his eighth year of pro, spent the past four seasons in Europe where he racked up 265 points (73g-192a) and 178 penalty minutes in 114 regular season games. In 2009-10, Aucoin led the Nijmegen Devils in Holland with thirty-three goals and sixty-two assists (ninety-five points) in forty-five regular season games and proceeded to register eighteen points (10g-8a) in the eight playoff games it took for the Devils to capture the Dutch championship. Prior to his stint in Europe, Aucoin played 193 games in North America, including sixty-nine games in the ECHL with the Charlotte Checkers and Florida Everblades in 2005-06, when he scored eighteen goals and assisted on twenty-eight others (forty-six points). Aucoin also played two seasons with the Memphis Riverkings of the Central Hockey League, including his rookie season when he led all first year players on the team with seventy-three points (25g-48a) in fifty-eight games. Prior to turning pro, Aucoin played four seasons for Norwich University, where he registered 136 points (45g-91a) in 110 college games. While Aucoin was with the Cadets, Norwich captured the ECAC-East title three times and won the 2003 NCAA Division III National Championship. Aucoin's brother, Keith, has played 75 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals and has spent the majority of the past three seasons with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Phil's cousin, Adrian, is a veteran of over 1000 NHL games.
