NECBL New England Collegiate Baseball League

NECBL Weekly Roundup

Published on June 9, 2014 under New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

Player of the Week

1B Vincent Guglietti

Senior | 6-5 | 220

Plymouth Pilgrims

Quinnipiac University

Guglietti, a rising senior at Quinnipiac, kicked off the summer on an absolutely torrid pace; the East Haven, Conn., native finished the week 5-for-9 at the plate and ranks third in the league in batting average (.556). More impressively, though, were his power numbers; Guglietti smashed three home runs and drove seven runs while scoring five runs and totaling 14 bases, all of which rank at the top of the league. His three extra-base hits and 1.556 slugging percentage are also tops in the NECBL.

Pitcher of the Week

LHP Ryan Davis

Junior | 6-1 | 205

Vermont Mountaineers

Le Moyne

Davis was up against a stellar cast of hurlers over the league's first four days of action, but the southpaw's league-best eight strikeouts in his season-opening win stood out. The rising junior at Le Moyne tossed six shutout innings against Laconia on June 6, fanning the aforementioned eight while yielding just a walk and three hits against 23 batters. Davis ranks tied-for-first in the league with a 0.00 ERA, one of 20 pitchers who have seen action and not allowed an earned run. His opponents average against stands at 0.136 while his WHIP is an impressive 0.67.

Honorable Mentions

Tyler Green (Newport/Vanderbilt, So., 1B/OF) - Finished 5-for-10 (.500) with five runs scored, a double four walks and five RBI.

Jake Ring (Danbury/Missouri, So., OF) - Led the league with seven hits (7-for-13) while batting .538 with three RBI and a stolen base.

Jeff Singer (Sanford/Monmouth, Senior, LHP) - Blanked Laconia over seven shutout innings while fanning six, walking two and allowing just one hit. His WHIP stands at a microscopic 0.430 after one start.

Dominic Severino (Keene/CCSU, Sr., RHP/1B) - The former SteepleCat and two-way player dazzled in his first start with his new team, picking up the win in a 5-0 Keene victory against Laconia on Saturday; Severino fanned four and walked none with just two hits allowed over seven shutout innings.
