North Carolina FC News Release

CARY, NC - North Carolina FC will open the 2022 USL League One regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to take on South Georgia Tormenta FC on Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Statesboro, GA. The North Carolina side will look to secure their first win of the season in Saturday's contest, with many new faces set to make their NCFC debut. The match will air live on ESPN+.

"We're looking forward to actually playing and getting the season started," said Head Coach John Bradford. "It's been a really productive and positive preseason, but it's been a long one, so the guys are ready, we were just talking about it as we wrapped up training. We're looking to build towards being a competitive group."

Last season, North Carolina FC posted a 1-0-1 record against the Ibises, tying Tormenta in the first meeting between the teams in July 2021 and later defeating the Georgia side in late October, 1-0. Saturday's tilt will be the third time the teams have met in USL League One competition.

Players to Watch

North Carolina FC - #19 Garrett McLaughlin

A prolific goalscorer and one of the league's top scorers last season, McLaughlin joined North Carolina FC from Toronto FC II earlier this year and has quickly asserted his role as a dominant striker. While with his former team, McLaughlin scored eight goals and added one assist, also adding a hat trick in one match. The Oklahoma City, OK native netted a goal in three of North Carolina FC's five preseason matches, and will look to similarly challenge Tormenta's defense in Saturday's contest as NCFC hunts for their first victory of the season.

South Georgia Tormenta FC - #27 Arthur Bosua

A new addition to the Tormenta roster, Bosua joined the Ibises from New Amsterdam FC of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). During the fall season, Bosua scored four goals and added two assists in 14 appearances, clocking 1,009 minutes of playing time for New Amsterdam. The 26-year-old also spent time with the Charleston Battery of USL Championship, for whom he made more than 40 appearances and scored eight goals in two seasons. Bosua will look to open his scoring account with his new club during Saturday's contest.

Up Next: North Carolina FC will return to WakeMed Soccer Park to take on Rio Grande Valley FC of USL Championship in the second round of the US Open Cup on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
