Cary, N.C. - North Carolina Courage and U.S. Women's National Team midfielder Samantha Mewis underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right knee earlier this week and will have a 6-8 week recovery.

"It's just something that's been bothering me for a while, so after having discussions with the U.S. Soccer and the Courage medical staffs I decided it was best to get it cleaned up now," said Mewis. "I feel good and I've already started on my rehab to work to get back for the end of the NWSL season and hopefully the October international window."

After returning to the NWSL from her highly successful stint at Manchester City in England, Mewis played in five matches for the Courage this season, scoring once with one assist, before leaving for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she helped the USA win the bronze medal.
