San Diego Riptide News Release
With af2's Fifth Anniversary season getting underway this weekend, a special feature is scheduled to air during the AFL on NBC Wendy's Halftime Show this Sunday, the league office announced today.
Featuring interviews with current and former af2 players and key league staff, the piece will also show various highlights from af2's first four seasons. The AFL on NBC coverage begins at 12:00 p.m. ET this Sunday. This week's slate of games includes: Philadelphia at Dallas, San Jose at Tampa Bay and New York at Carolina.
The Riptide, along with 11 other af2 teams, will kick off their 2004 season this Saturday. The 'Tide's opponent will be the 2003 National Conference runners-up, the Arkansas Twisters. The teams split two games last season, with the 'Tide taking the first game 40-34 but dropping their second meeting a week later, 51-43.
San Diego returns home next weekend to take on the Green Bay Blizzard in their home opener, Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sports Arena. Preceding the game will be a ceremony in which the team will present San Diego legend, Junior Seau, with an official Riptide jersey in honor of his numerous on and off-field contributions within the San Diego community.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance for the game will receive a free Junior Seau Riptide t-shirt, featuring the Riptide logo and Seau's name and number "55" emblazoned on the back, courtesy of Wells Fargo. Fans can get their tickets for "Junior Seau Night" at the Sports Arena for as little as $12 each at the Sports Arena box office, Ticketmaster, or by calling the Riptide offices at 866-RIPTIDE.
