SURPRISE, AZ. - Infielder Whit Merrifield had two hits and a stolen base and catcher Ryan Jenkins hit two singles, but it wasn't enough for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals as they lost to the Jackson Generals 6-3 in a Spring Training game on Wednesday. The Generals are the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Merrifield, the 2012 Player of the Year for the Class-A Advanced Wilmington Blue Rocks, had two singles in the loss. Merrifield played in 24 games for the Naturals last season and hit a double in his lone Cactus League at-bat this spring. Jenkins, who played in 43 games for the Naturals in his first Double-A season, also scored a run in the contest.
Noel Arguelles pitched four innings, giving up three hits, one run and two walks with five strikeouts. Arguelles made a team-high 25 starts last season, posting a 4-14 record with a 6.41 ERA. Arguelles pitched in two Cactus League games for the Royals this spring, giving up three runs on six hits in three innings of work.
