SURPRISE, AZ. - Outfielder Alex Llanos had a two-hit afternoon but the Northwest Arkansas Naturals lost to the Frisco RoughRiders, 7-2, in a Cactus League game this afternoon. The RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and were the Texas League Runner-up in 2012.
Llanos went two-for-three with two singles and a run scored. Llanos was the Royals' sixth round pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and was named Player of the Year for Rookie-level Surprise in 2009. Last season, Llanos batted. .280 in 68 games for Class-A Kane County (IL).
Michael Giovenco struck out two batters and issued a walk in his lone inning on Monday after a scoreless outing on Saturday. Giovenco spent the majority of the 2012 season with Class-A Kane County, posting a 5-3 record with a 4.34 ERA in 32 appearances.
Rudy Brown gave up a hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless inning. In 2012, Brown went 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA in 25 appearances out of the bullpen for Kane County. Brown signed with the Royals as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.
