Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Springfield Cardinals used a solo home run by *Paul DeJong* and a run-scoring single from *Luis Cruz* to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning, a deficit of which the Naturals could not rally. The Naturals fell in 10-innings to the Cardinals, 3-1, on Saturday night in front of 5,126 people at Arvest Ballpark.
Northwest Arkansas (45-54/16-12) took an early 1-0 lead on *Alfredo Escalera's *second inning, solo home run off Springfield starter, *Luke Weaver*. The big fly for Escalera is his first at the Double-A level and third overall between Wilmington (Advanced-A) and the Naturals. Left-hander, *Eric Skoglund*, did his best to protect the run advantage.
The left-hander tossed 6.0 innings of shutout, one-hit baseball against Springfield (52-47/11-18) and left the game with the one-run lead. Skoglund struck out four and walked three in the outing.
Springfield tied the game in seventh inning after a ball skipped back to the screen to allow Cruz to score the tying run.
Escalera finished the night 2-for-4 at the plated while *Ryan O'Hearn* added the other hit for the Naturals' three knocks on the night.
*Reid Redman (0-1, 6.48) *took the loss for the Naturals while *John Brebbia (3-2, 4.06) *earned the win.
The four-game series concludes tomorrow afternoon on a Kid's Eat Free Family Sunday at Arvest Ballpark, with right-hander, *Jake Junis (9-5, 3.03) *taking the ball in the finale, looking for a series win and his 10th win on the year. Countering for the Cardinals is right-hander, *Daniel Poncedeleon (4-5, 3.45) *in the final game of the set.
