Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers and Arkansas Travelers tangled for the fourth time in three days on Saturday night in Little Rock, Arkansas, with the Drillers dropping their second consecutive game, this time by a score of 3-0. The pitcher's duel lasted a mere two hours and fifteen minutes in length.
Lisalverto Bonilla and Troy Scribner locked horns through the first four frames of the game, with each allowing their first baserunner to reach via singles in the fourth inning. Bonilla had recorded five strikeouts in his first five innings of work for the Drillers.
Arkansas was finally able to solve Bonilla in the bottom of the fifth inning. After the first out, Anthony Phillips reached first base on a single, and moved around to third base on a double from second baseman Sean Coyle. With one out and a pair of men in scoring position, Arkansas was able to capitalize with a run-scoring single from Alex Yarbrough, and followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score Coyle, giving the Travelers a 2-0 lead.
Bonilla would get out of the inning, and even pushed through the seventh inning as well, recording a pair of strikeouts in that inning to bring his total for the game to 7. He allowed a meager four hits, and only walked one in the outing.
Unfortunately, the Drillers were unable to solve Troy Scribner in his 6 2/3 innings of work. Scribner held Tulsa to two hits while he was on the mound, but did allow three runners to reach on walks.
Tim Locastro was the first Driller to reach, managing a single in the fourth inning. He was stranded on second base after swiping it for his second steal of the season.
A pair of walks didn't help the Drillers in the top of the fifth inning. Alex Verdugo's leadoff walk was erased by a double play. Lars Anderson drew a two out walk, but a fly-out quietly ended the inning.
Tulsa had a pair of men on in the top of the seventh inning with two outs after Jacob Scavuzzo singled to lead off the inning and Vinny DiFazio drew a two-out walk. That frame also ended with a harmless groundout.
Arkansas extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Drillers error. Anthony Phillips roped a ball into left center field past Alex Verdugo. On the relay back into the infield, the ball skipped past Tarsovich at third base and into the Drillers dugout. Phillips was awarded home, and an error was charged to Verdugo.
Tulsa will look to get back on the winning side with an evening game on Sunday night. Jeremy Kehrt (4-4, 4.75 ERA) will take the mound for Tulsa while Arkansas will counter with Jordan Kipper (8-5, 3.64 ERA), The game is scheduled to begin at 6:10PM.
