Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR-Rey Navarro gave Northwest Arkansas (17-33, 54-66) its only lead of the night in the bottom of the eighth, while Sam Runion held on, to give the 'Nats a 4-3 victory over Frisco (24-26, 65-55) Monday night at Arvest Ballpark. With the win, the Naturals avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the RoughRiders.
Jurickson Profar got Frisco on the scoreboard with two outs in the third. Facing Justin Marks, Profar slammed his 14th home run to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The longball also ended a stretch of 66 homerless at-bats for the Curacao native.
The visitors added to their lead in fourth inning after Marks walked the lead-off hitter Chris McGuiness. Marks would be relieved with one out by Michael Mariot (6-3), who allowed an RBI single to Jared Prince, while a pair of errors by first baseman Mario Lisson allowed Tommy Mendonca to score from second.
Down 3-0, Northwest Arkansas added its first tally in the home fourth. 'Riders starter Cody Buckel allowed the first two batters to reach (hit by pitch and a walk), and a double steal moved both into scoring position. Buckel would strike out two in a row, but Carlo Testa singled off the body of the right-hander to make it 3-1.
Miguel De Los Santos worked out of a first and third jam in the sixth inning, but wasn't as fortunate in the seventh. With a runner at second, Yem Prades singled for the third time in the game to cut the 'Riders lead down to a run, before a balk and an RBI base hit by Will Merrifield leveled the conest at three.
Northwest Arkansas took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. 0 for 3 coming into the at-bat, Lisson doubled and stole third off Ryan Rodebaugh (2-5). With the go-ahead run 90 feet from home, Rey Navarro lifted a sacrifice fly to center which was just deep enough for Lisson to score.
Left to their final at-bats, the 'Riders put the tying run at second base against Naturals closer Sam Runion, but Ryan Strausborger was thrown out trying to advance to third on a pitch in the dirt to end the game.
Michael Mariot picked up the win for Northwest Arkansas, working 4.2 innings and allowing one unearned run. Ryan Rodebaugh suffered the loss for the 'Riders, he allowed one run on one hit and walked one over an inning of duty. Sam Runion pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Frisco will have a scheduled off-day on Tuesday before beginning a three-game series with Tulsa on Wednesday night. Wilfredo Boscan (5-5, 4.32) makes the start for Frisco, and will be opposed by LHP Josh Outman (1-4, 4.54). First pitch is slated for 7:00 from Dr Pepper Ballpark, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
