
Nathan Smith loaned to Team Canada for the 2003 Sweden Games

The Canadian Hockey Association announced that forward Nathan Smith has been loaned to Canada's National Men's Team for the 2003 Sweden Games by the Vancouver Canucks. The Sweden Games will be played from February 4-9, 2003 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Smith, 20, will join the team during the first week of February and will miss five Moose games on the upcoming road trip against the Hamilton Bulldogs, Manchester Monarchs, Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins.
Canada's Sweden Games roster will feature six players on loan from their National Hockey League organizations. Goaltender Jamie Hodson (St. John's â AHL â Toronto Maple Leafs), defencemen Mathieu Biron (San Antonio â AHL â Florida Panthers) and Jesse Fibiger (Cleveland â AHL â San Jose Sharks) and forwards Chuck Kobasew (Saint John â AHL â Calgary Flames), Matthew Lombardi (Saint John â AHL â Calgary Flames) and Nathan Smith (Manitoba â AHL â Vancouver Canucks) have all been loaned by their respective NHL clubs. Kobasew was a member of Canada's 2002 silver medal winning National Junior Team. In addition to these players, Canada will have 11 members of Canada's 2002 Spengler Cup winning team, including tournament All-Stars Jamie Heward and Paul DiPietro.
Gary Green (CHA) will lead Canada behind the bench for the Sweden Games and will be assisted by Mike Kelly (Head Coach of Canada's 2003 Under-18 team) and Doug Jarvis (Dallas Stars).
Canada has participated in the Sweden Games since 1992, the year they captured their only Sweden Games championship. Last season, Canada finished fifth while Canada placed third in 2001 and 2000.
