Nate Kiser to Enter Stingrays Hall of Fame on Opening Night

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that the team will induct former defenseman Nate Kiser into The Post and Courier Stingrays Hall of Fame on Friday, October 14 at the North Charleston Coliseum during the first intermission of the Stingrays game against the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m.

Kiser skated for seven seasons with the Stingrays from 2004-11 and was a member of the 2009 Kelly Cup championship team. The Southgate, Michigan, native appeared in 412 games with the Stingrays, third-most in team history, scoring 21 goals and 94 assists for 115 points and 53 postseason contests netting 11 points (3g, 8a). On March 22, 2011 against the Greenville Road Warriors, Kiser became the all-time Stingrays penalty minutes leader passing Bret Marietti (1,127 PIM) and finished his career with 1,131 penalty minutes.

"For the last seven years, Nate Kiser has bled Stingrays colors on and off the ice," said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. "I cannot think of anyone more deserving to go into the Stingrays Hall of Fame."

A 5th round draft pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Kiser began his professional career with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 2003-04 compiling 15 points (5g, 10a) in 63 games. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound defenseman also saw action in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Syracuse Crunch, Portland Pirates and Albany River Rats grabbing one assist and 48 PIM in 11 games.

Prior to turning pro, Kiser spent four years with the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers, totaling 41 points (13g, 28a) and 473 penalty minutes in 237 junior games.

Kiser will skate in the Stingrays Alumni Game on Saturday, October 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Tickets and information on the alumni game are available by clicking here or by calling the Stingrays Office at (843) 744-2248.

Kiser joins Julie Thoennes, Jason Fitzsimmons, Jerry Zucker, Marietti, Dave Seitz, Ed Courtenay, Kirk Daubenspeck, Concan-non, Rick Vaive, Mark Bavis and Brad Dexter in Stingrays Hockey Hall of Fame.

The 2011-12 season kicks off with Opening Weekend and Alumni Weekend on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 against the Reading Royals and Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
