Nashville Wins 5-4 On Iribarren's Grand Slam

ROUND ROCK - Sounds second baseman Hernan Iribarren's grand slam lifted Nashville to a 5-4 win on Saturday night at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Nashville (70-65) remains tied with Iowa for second place in the Pacific Coast League American Northern Division, trailing first place Memphis by 1.5 games.

Round Rock outfielder Reggie Abercrombie put the Express in front 1-0 with his 11th home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning.

Nashville answered with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Sounds outfielder Corey Patterson tripled to lead off the inning, followed by a Joe Koshansky RBI single that knotted the game at one.

Mat Gamel and Tike Redman each added base hits later in the inning, followed by a grand slam by Iribarren that put the Sounds ahead at 5-1. Iribarren's home run was his third long ball of the season and second grand slam of the season by Nashville.

In the next frame, the Express rallied to score three runs on RBI hits by J.R. Towels and Abercrombie, trimming the Nashville lead to 5-4.

The Sounds' bullpen kept the express in check the rest of the game, with John Axford, Ryan Houston, and Chris Smith throwing three scoreless innings in relief, including Smith's team-leading 17th save of the season.

Sounds starter Chase Wright (9-7) earned the win after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings.

Jose Capellan moved to 2-8, surrendering five runs in four innings for Round Rock.

The Sounds and Express conclude their five-game series at 6:05 pm CT on Sunday at the Dell Diamond. Sounds left-hander Chris Cody (7-7, 4.84) makes the start against Round Rock lefty Josh Muecke (6-9, 4.88).
