Nashville SC Kicks off 2024 MLS Regular Season at GEODIS Park this Sunday
February 24, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Boys in Gold return home to Music City on Sunday to host the New York Red Bulls in the club's 2024 MLS season opener after a 3-0 victory against Moca FC in Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup on Thursday.
Here are five things to know for Sunday's match, airing live at 4 p.m. CT on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and via radio on Nashville SC's flagship station, 104.5 the Zone, and Sirius XM:
When the Boys in Gold take the pitch on Sunday, they'll be wearing more Acoustic Blue. The team will be debuting the third primary kit in club history, which features a solid Acoustic Blue stripe across the jersey chest and Acoustic Blue shorts. To celebrate the on-field debut of the new '615' jersey, Nashville SC players will each wear one of 35 neighborhood and Middle Tennessee-specific jersey patches designed in partnership with local artist Cymone Wilder. The opening day jerseys will also feature special numbers designed to represent Nashville's interstates and the Cumberland River and will be auctioned off at a later date to benefit the Nashville SC Community Fund.
Sunday's season opener at GEODIS Park marks the fifth season of MLS play for Nashville SC. The Boys in Gold enter the match one victory shy of 50 league wins (46 regular season and three playoffs) as they begin their quest for their fifth straight appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs. The team set a club record for home wins in 2023 with nine.
When Nashville SC squares off against the Red Bulls, it will be déjà vu all over again. The clubs finished their 2023 regular seasons against each other on Decision Day last October 23rd, and now they meet again to kick off their respective 2024 MLS campaigns. The Decision Day 2023 match up required extra time to decide a winner after New York converted a penalty kick in the match's 94th minute.
Nashville SC featured a balanced attack when the club opened its season on Thursday with a 3-0 victory over Dominican side Moca FC in Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup. The Boys in Gold saw three players tally goals in the team's international debut-midfielder Hany Mukhtar (1 goal, 1 assist), forward Sam Surridge (1 goal, 1 assist), and forward Tyler Boyd who netted one goal in his Nashville SC debut. Veteran forward Teal Bunbury added an assist on Boyd's strike.
The Boys in Gold will be back at it on Wednesday, Feb. 28 when they host Moca FC at GEODIS Park for the second leg of the clubs' Round One Concacaf Champions Cup series. Nashville SC leads the round 3-0 on aggregate. The match kicks off at 8:15 p.m. CT, with the round winner facing Inter Miami CF in the Round of 16 beginning March 7. Tickets for Nashville SC's first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup home match are available for purchase at nashvillesc.com.
