Getting back on the scoresheet - The main focus for the squad heading into the final two matches of the regular season has been getting the attack back to a well-oiled machine, which propelled the Boys in Gold up the table for much of the season.
"The main emphasis and focus has very much been on trying to get those relationships, that understanding, that timing of the attacking group; Hany [Mukhtar] and Sam [Surridge] of course will be a focal point of that," said head coach Gary Smith. "We know that, but I think there are some connecting pieces there that can also be very influential in the likes of Jacob [Shaffelburg], and Randall [Leal], and some of the other attacking guys that are going to give us a slightly different look and certainly play a very important role in how we can be effective and certainly start getting on the scoresheet again."
"There's been a lot of energy and lot of focus on that for the group. That will continue to happen today and into next week. And as we prepare for the playoffs, I'm hoping that some of the foundational strengths of the group that we saw last weekend in Philadelphia, and I think that group in general have always shown that commitment and that strong core."
Finishing the regular season on a strong note - Although the Boys in Gold have already had the postseason clinched for some time now, Smith wants to finish as strong as possible with two matches remaining before playoffs kick off.
"I do think the way that we finish, the mindset, and the emotional position of the group, the personality of the group come the end of the season is probably going to be more important than anything," Smith said. "That in itself might well lead us, in the best circumstances, to a higher finish. Of course, we want to make sure we're in the best position possible for our own well-being."
