Atlantic City Surf News Release
ATLANTIC CITY__The Nashua Pride defeated the Atlantic City Surf 5-3 in 13 innings before 1320 at Sandcastle Stadium Thursday night. Chris Peterson''s two-out two-RBI single off Mark Rutherford in the top of the 13th was the game-winner for the Pride, who dealt a severe blow to the Surf''s playoff chances.
Atlantic City must now sweep Camden and hope Long Island sweeps Somerset in order to qualify for the playoffs.
The Surf led 2-1 going into the ninth inning but the Pride rallied to score two runs off Surf closer Randi Mallard. Melvin Nieves tied the game with an RBI single off Mallard and Chop Pough drove in another to give the Pride a 3-2 lead.
But Atlantic City tied the game on a two-out RBI single by Lauro Felix in the bottom of the ninth off Nashua''s Rusty Meachem. Atlantic City then had the potential game-winning run gunned down at home plate when Creighton Gubanich was thrown out trying to score from second.
Kevin McGlinchy got the victory for Nashua; Travis Thompson took the loss for Atlantic City.
