Napheesa Collier Named to All-WNBA Second Team

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The WNBA today announced that Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has been voted to the All-WNBA Second Team for 2020, the first such honor of her career and extending the Lynx' streak to 10 consecutive years with at least one player named to an All-WNBA team. Collier, who received a total of 123 points in balloting by a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, becomes the fifth Minnesota player to earn All-WNBA honors within the first two years of her career, joining Betty Lennox (2000), Katie Smith (2000), Seimone Augustus (2006, 2007) and Maya Moore (2012).

The 6-1 forward started all 22 games for Minnesota in 2020, averaging 16.1 points (12th in the WNBA), 9.0 rebounds (third), 3.3 assists (19th), 1.82 steals (third) and 1.27 blocks (sixth) in a league-best 34.2 minutes per game. She shot 52.3% from the floor (ninth), 40.8% from three-point range (15th) and 82.9% from the line (26th) to join Seattle's Breanna Stewart as the only players this year to rank among the league's top 30 in all nine major statistical categories. Collier was Minnesota's leading scorer seven times, top rebounder on 13 occasions and leader in assists six times while notching seven point/rebound double-doubles.

Highlights from her sophomore season included being named Western Conference Player of the Week on Aug. 17, after tallying 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds Aug. 13 vs. Las Vegas and following with a season-high 26 points and 13 rebounds two nights later vs. New York. She registered career highs with six assists and four steals (adding 20 points and nine rebounds) in the Aug. 21 victory over Phoenix and was credited with a career-high four blocks in the Aug. 1 win vs. Connecticut. Collier logged at least 35 minutes in 12 games, topped by a career-best 39:20 stint vs. Washington on Sept. 8.

In the 2020 Playoffs, Collier led Minnesota in rebounding three times in four games, capped by a 22-point, 15-rebound, three-block effort vs. Seattle on Sept. 27. She opened the semifinal series with 25 points, nine rebounds and a playoff club-record six blocks against the Storm on Sept. 22. Five of those blocks occurred in the fourth quarter, tying a WNBA Playoff record initially set by Phoenix center Brittney Griner in 2014. In four postseason games overall, Collier averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.50 blocks per contest while shooting 50.0% from the field and 53.8% (7-for-13) from three-point distance.
