Wheeling Nailers News Release
The Wheeling Nailers have signed Pittsburgh Pirates General Manager David Littlefield to be "GM for the Day" for this coming Saturday, January 29th.
The current Pirates GM will take a short break from baseball and focus his attention on hockey. Littlefield will join current head coach and director of hockey operations, Pat Bingham, in making the day's player moves. While no announcement has been made, it is rumored that Littlefield is contemplating signing MLB All-Star Jack Wilson for the day too.
Having grown up in Portland, Maine, Littlefield has always had an interest in hockey. "I am looking forward to trying my hand at hockey. During my childhood, we played a lot of hockey, so this should be fun!"
Littlefield won't be the only one having fun this Saturday, as the Nailers plan to host the Pirates Caravan for their game against Reading at 8 PM that night. During the game several current Pirates players (including All-Star Jack Wilson, Rob Mackowiak, and Mike Gonzalez) will be in attendance, signing free autographs, and talking with fans. The event is expected to draw over 4,000 fans, making it possibly the largest Caravan event ever.
The first 2500 fans through the door will receive a unique giveaway item from the Pirates and the Nailers. Before the game Pirates players Jack Wilson, Rob Mackowiak, and Mike Gonzalez, along with General Manager David Littlefield will be signing autographs in the Main Concourse of WesBanco Arena from 7:00-8:00. Immediately following the game the Nailers/Pirates special hockey jerseys will be auctioned off for fans. Interested fans are asked to remain and participate in the live auction.
