Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce their roster for Training Camp 2012. The roster consists of 22 players, featuring 12 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goaltenders.

Ten of the 22 players featured on this year's training camp roster spent at least part of the 2011-12 season with the Nailers, and one other player also enjoyed time in the ECHL last season.

Up front, reigning leading scorer Chris Barton had the most productive season for those who are returning to the Ohio Valley, after racking up 29 goals and 60 points. Ben Farrer, Cam Fergus, Peter Lenes (injured), Christiaan Minella (injured), Matt Schepke, and Scooter Vaughan join Barton as returning forwards from last year's squad. The new forwards who will be looking to earn a spot with the Nailers will be: Nick Asterito, Alex Belzile, Ryan Maunu, Dave Shultz, and Jordy Trottier. Belzile is the lone player out of those five with an ECHL contract, while the other four have been invited to training camp.

On the blueline, Zach Hansen returns to the club, after playing in all but four regular season games a year ago. Joining Hansen on the blueline will be Adam Ross and Peter Child, who both suited up for Wheeling during the 2011-12 campaign. Paul Cianfrini also saw ECHL action a year ago, as he was a member of the Toledo Walleye for 17 games. There will also be three rookie defensemen at training camp, as the Nailers signed Tim Corcoran to an ECHL contract, while inviting Mike Kavanagh, Nicholas Kuqali, and Peter Starrett.

Two brand new faces will be taking their places in the goal crease during training camp, as the Nailers have invited Michael Chiasson and Matt Tendler to Wheeling. Tendler is a recent graduate of Neumann College, while Chiasson played for Rimouski of the QMJHL and Acadia University.

Training Camp 2012 begins on Wednesday, with a practice at WesBanco Arena at 3 p.m.
